Discussion:	The authors noted that based upon historical data Sarcoidosis appears to be more prevalent among patients with tattoo reactions and they evaluated the potential association in their systematic study. In their conclusion the authors noted that "black tattoos with papulo-nodular reactions should be seen as markers of sarcoidosis" and that depending on individual predisposition "Papulo-nodular reactions may, as triggers, induce widespread reactions in other black tattoos" describing this as a “rush phenomenon” . The authors estimated that Sarcoidosis to have a 500-fold increased in papulo-nodular reactions as compared to the prevalence in the general population, and they considered that association with black tattoos is "strong".
Recommendations:	Suggest that clients with body art who exhibit papulo-nodular reactions within black tattoos (e.g. granuloma's) are referred to their treating doctor for evaluation particularly if more than one tattoo is involve.
